Who the hell decided it was a good idea to make links a half shade lighter than the neighboring text?
Who the hell decided size 11 font is readable?
I'm sure it's much better now than it was before. I also know how much easier it is to criticize than it is to be proactive, but I think it could use a good view through color-blind filters because the lack of typographic/color hierarchy between page elements leads to a ton of visual ambiguity. Also is there any formalized process to submit bug reports/feature requests for the site? I also noticed when submitting this page that putting multiple tags in the tag box during submit just concatenated all of them (a completely unexpected behavior that I'm guessing could be easily caught during client/server side validations against spaces)
Harsh! But I agree there's a lot to be done in order to make hubski bearable. Not only the actual UI, but UX wise as well. Like when you open up someone's hub and follow them and the page reloads and you lose your scroll position or maybe even an unfinished comment. Or when you click "markup" and it leaves the page. There are a lot of these annoying "features".
Clicking markup shouldn't leave the page, a box should pop up like this:
Yeah, you're right, but I'm sure it actually leaves the page when commenting via another page. IIRC the markup link was on the bottom left of the text area as well. I don't remember what page that was.
yeah, I just did that. It appears the site was designed with the AJAX functionality as primary interaction mode instead of progressive enhancement. Which, obviously, completely breaks with anyone w/o JS or script blocking. The other extremely odd thing is the URL structure. Not at all conducive to URL hacking, and does NOT AT ALL follow a restful protocol. I'm also guessing it stems from the AJAXiness of the interaction.
I love when you talk dirty to me, mat. But yeah, I made a hubski account like a year ago and ignored it til now (and forgot my password). I was glad this time I at least spent the time to pick a different theme other than the default. It seems to help. That being said, still getting used to the feel of it all.
It looks like the entire text in a post is a hairspace in from its surrounding context. It may just be kerning, though.
Agreed about the link shade. Are the AJAX shadowboxes those boxes that open, say, when I click on your username? I don't mind them so much, but the font size of the text on the far left could be increased a bit. Also, one thing about overall feel. I like it. I do. But, some of the symbols used are a bit confusing if you've never been to Hubski before. For instance, the symbols under my username to the far left of this screen aren't universally known. By that I mean, for some people they may not get what they stand for while others might get it naturally. Symbols and how they are interpreted is something I find very interesting and I tend to note symbols and how they are displayed and used in everyday life very often. Also, regarding the symbols in a greater UI context. I like it. I find that symbols and basic UI design is the way of generating repeat users/visitors to a site. The more simple the UI the more likely the visitor will become a user. For me, it took to looking at the about hubski link, on the left, to locate the Hubski legend. Perhaps, it should reside somewhere more prominent, such as at the bottom of your user profile? Just a thought.
How do you change the layout? Sorry, I guess I'm new here :)
Hey canadiandane, welcome. On the left under "My Hubski" click on "controls". There you'll find what you are looking for under "styles". Hope this helps.
