This is the first logical explanation of how AIDS came to be that has ever been published by any mainstream outlet that I've ever come across. Strongly recommend that you read it; very interesting.
Damn interesting. It makes you wonder how many other possible pandemics have almost bubbled up to the surface over the course of history. The number must be much higher than those that have.
That's partly what gives me so little faith in conjectures and reactions surrounding things like H5N1 (avian flu), etc. What gets us is that we don't know about. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,174106,00.html

Its seems to always be the case with disasters that they only happen when a myriad circumstances coincide (think of any plane crash where three or four failures all happen at once). I do commend Bush for at least trying to plan for an outbreak of Flu; although like we saw with H1N1 (the near disaster), pigs, not birds were the culprit. Difficult to plan, but that doesn't mean that the efforts are all waste.

"Patients might get up to 300 shots in a lifetime. Other diseases have spread this way; an Egyptian campaign against schistosomiasis ended in 1980 after giving more than half its “beneficiaries” hepatitis C." -This is the kind of thing that creates the conspiracy theories that the government is intentionally inoculating the population with disease through vaccination. I don't think it's intentional, but you can see where the fear comes from.
Great read. Thanks.

reality is usually secondary to conspiracy theorists.-That's usually the case, but every now and then the conspiracy theorists are the ones most firmly set in reality. Nixon's presidency comes to mind.
