This is a rough mix of a song I want to put on our next album.
About a year and a half ago I moved to Durham NC from Ann Arbor MI. I had a band in Michigan The New Green and imo, they were really great. Those are the guys you are hearing on this recording.
When I moved to NC, I decided that I would finish the album we started here. I would record my vocals and find some violinists and horn players to help finish what we started. I found a violinist via craigslist, which was really the only way I knew how to meet anyone at that point.
We met to over a beer and she seemed nice, a little vanilla, but excited to record. -She had only ever played in her church band and was looking to try to branch out. I brought the demos of the songs, including this one.
If you listen to this song, you'll notice that the background vox are a little goofy. I was trying to come up with some interesting vocal ideas and by the end of the song I was annoyed. In my annoyance I recorded several tracks of me singing the words "Like a motherfucking bird". -Thinking no one else would ever hear it. Well, I forgot to mute the track and gave her that version.
It was the first track on the CD I gave her. We ended up not making music together.
Enjoy this motherfucking song.
That was a really tight track, I loved the end section even with the "like a motherfucking bird" part thrown in, though I think it would have been better with that muted. Still a great track. Maybe it was for the best, that's a pretty funny story.
Yeah, I think it probably was for the best. She wasn't very secure in her playing yet. Thanks for the feedback re the song. I think it has some potential for sure. I want to re-record the lead vox and do a track an octave higher. I think I'll push myself on this one to sing in a higher register.
You should post it if you do that! This song has a nice 60's vibe to it during some parts with the riffs and backing vocals.
