I have asked this question of some of you a while back and I know that a number of you said you would participate. Well, I'm ready to start working on podcasts again. I was going to have a big ole podcast about the fundamentals of writing etc... but nah. Per kleinbl00's advice I want to ask one pointed question:
Why Do You Write?
Participating is easy, you simply record yourself saying the following:
Hi, this is (username example humanodon) of Hubski
Then record yourself reading the question:
Why do I write?
Then record yourself giving the answer, which ideally would start out:
I write because. Or -I write....
Try and keep your answer to this question under 2 minutes. Realize that I will be editing and mixing out all the "ums", and "coughs" etc. Also, I may shorten your answer or splice it in with someone elses to help construct a more succinct narrative.
I always shoot for these things to be under 5 minutes, but inevitably they end up being longer.
In your answer, the more personal and specific it is to you, the more interesting it will be. I hope to have a number of participants.
If you are interested, you can PM me and I'll send you the email address. Just record your voice and send over an MP3 or an audio file. Most people just use the "voice memo" application on their iphones.
Thanks in advance. Here are some writers I think may be interested:
kleinbl00, maynard, _refugee_, lil, onehunna, Becoming_Betty, Floatbox, AshShields, cW, theadvancedapes, insomniasexx, ChrisShann, humanodon, louderwords,
There are undoubtably people I have forgotten to tag in here. In fact as I write this I'm reminded of b_b who is a great writer and a friend IRL, so don't feel offended if I've forgotten you. Please let me know, all are welcome!
If you've not heard any past podcasts, you can hear/view them here: #tngpodcast. My personal favorite is Space. If we are really lucky, steve will put the "Why Do You Write?" podcast to video.
Look forward to hearing from you
I'm interested, just gotta figure out a time to record this.
I write because tng asked me to -- so I went to the park and wrote nine reasons why I write. I'll send a recording via Vocaroo in the dark quiet night. If I'm lucky there will be thunder in the background! Voice mail application on my iPhone? First I have to get an iPhone.
I received the recording. Thank you very much lil, they are wonderful.
I write because the bullshit SEO company that my company hired refuses to understand our technologies or capabilities. Therefore they tell me what to do, and I do it. Today's task: 300-700 words per page, 12 pages. H1 TAGS. INTERNAL LINKS! WHERE ARE THOSE MOTHERFUCKING KEYWORDS?!
I'm late to the party here (I arrived with the recent influx of reddit users), but is it too late to submit recordings? I see this was posted a month ago, and so I'd think chances are good that the upcoming podcast is already in the midst of production. If things are still early in the process and submissions are still welcomed, I'd love to submit!
_refugee_, Any interest in begin a part of this?
Glad you are on board. If you've got too much going on don't sweat it. aside: I was playing your readings: The World is Too Much With Us and Sounds From Saturday Morning to my daughter while we were driving. She seemed to enjoy it, but then we got to This Be the Verse and I had to turn it off. -She's only two and a half after all. -Way to corrupt my kid :) edit: Your response poem was great.
I should be able to. Part of it is going to be figuring out how to articulate why I write :) Working on it, though! Oh, I'm so glad you enjoy them! Never too early to get kids listening to poetry. Sounds From Saturday Morning is an accidental post, actually, but a great, great poem to share with your daughter I think. I'll retitle it and feature it in a blog post soon. You've inspired me to record a couple more child-friendly classics. Spread the word with the little 'uns! Thanks. :) Always glad to hear you enjoy.

-Awesome! I'm excited to hear them, be sure to shout-out to me once they are up. Thanks.
You finally buy that waterfall in WA? Good luck with the move and remember, cleanliness is next to godliness.
We are about due for an upgrade as well. We currently have a three-bedroom house, with one of the bedrooms as my office. Looks like my office is going to literally be in the furnace room now. The next few months will entail me making that room habitable. Drywall, flooring etc. Got to make room for this new kid! Enjoy that new console!
Thanks Cadell, I'm interested in your answer as I think your motivation for your more technical writing will be different than the fiction and poetry most here write. -Awesome!
