I don't mean to disrespect your opinion or anything, but the idea that religion held back the scientific advancement of the human race isn't accepted by any notable historian. I often see people posting the 'chart' that shows a gap in scientific advancement during so called' dark ages' (which didn't really exist, it was an age dreamt up during the renaissance by writers who had a hard-on for the romans), which also grossly misrepresents human history.

And for what knowledge was lost, you can't blame Christianity for that when the collapse of a continent spanning empire contributed to a great deal of said lost knowledge (much of which was preserved anyway, by Muslims and other places in the east). I think the most common blame I see on Christians is the Library at Alexandria, which had been destroyed, looted, and burned several other times before Christianity even existed, it also ignores the fact that there were plenty of other centres of knowledge.

It's also a very, very eurocentric perspective on human progress, and it completely ignores the intellectual progress in China and the middle east.

I'm not disagreeing with your statement that people use religion as a means to persectute others, that much is true, but the idea that religion is inherently a rival of science in history is a very flawed notion that isn't supported in any historical circles, unless you're counting people like Hitchens (who wasn't a historian).

By the time that self-driving cars are the norm, I imagine that crash safety would be a great deal better than it is now (which is pretty damn good already). It's up to a whole variety of factors, and in the case of a pedestrian it's essentially their fault especially if there are actually pedestrian crossings, why should the passenger have to die for the sake of someone else's mistake?

I mean if we're talking just a normal suburban road that has a 50/60kmh speed limit (30-35mph) then I imagine the google car should have some reasonable method of detecting a pedestrian at risk of being hit at a long enough distance for it to use its brakes.

Aluminium/Aluminum is used as an adjuvant in the vaccine, I've seen the same concerns with regards to Mercury being used in vaccines.

The thing is, it's not like they shave off aluminium and dump into the vaccine as free floating metals or whatever, they're usually in a form like a salt or something like that. All they do is trigger your immune system to provoke a stronger response, and as a result a stronger immunity.

I've tried to get over using my phone while driving and in general by just getting a small cheap watch. Instead of fumbling in my pocket for a smartphone I just have to glance at my wrist, and there's little risk of of me getting caught up in social networks and all that jazz.

Smartphones feel like, well, smarter pocketwatches in a lot of cases to me. I still love my S4, though.

I work in Toxicology, meaning I perform random drug immunoassays, these days it's mostly mining/construction and child protection.

I've been called a maggot for what I do. I don't agree with stuff like Marijuana being placed in the same class as Meth, but I don't think people working on mine sites should be doing anything that could affect their work, including drinking alcohol. Even if it were all legal I doubt I'd be out of a job.

Hubski is the first page that loads when I open my browser in the morning, I don't really have time to contribute as much due to work/study requirements and other things like DoTA2.

They're pretty good, if a little expensive. But everything is expensive here in Perth thanks to the high cost of living caused by the mining boom + real estate bubble.

I was in high school, year 12 specifically, when a notorious problem decided to stomp on these disposable razors the school gave people who had to shave (All boys school, so looking neat was pretty strictly regulated).

He then grabbed the blades from the razor and walked over to me, I was oblivious and talking to other people. He then cuts through my left sleeve of my white button-up shirt into my skin, giving a pretty nasty deep cut. I still have the scar surprisingly enough. Ended up going home on the bus with a heavily bloodstained white shirt.

I used to do some volunteer work with the Red Cross here on their 'soup patrol' vans every week or so in high school. We'd basically head down to our local Croissant Express and they'd give us a ton of sandwiches, rolls and baguettes full of meat and such that they didn't sell that day. There was honestly nothing wrong with any of it, but they can't exactly just have it lying around.

Red Cross soup is pretty delicious, fyi.
