I've never really payed attention to the oscars other than a reference list for when I want to watch movies I haven't seen before. I have other lists that normally work better for finding what I like or think are fantastic movies.

Any democratic process seems to devolve into a popularity contest, whether public or in a select group. Maybe a large rotating panel of established actors/directors/critics/etc could provide better fair assessments of movies' "award winning" qualities.

I've been putting off getting/using a VPN because it seems like a hassle. :/

If any up/down voting system is ever implemented there should be no way of tracking number of "upvotes and downvotes" if it's downvoted out, no one cares by how much. And going after upvotes is a big reason why reddit is becoming a very base place. Knowing the number encourages people to go for a "high score" instead of being themselves.

I like the "voting" system in place currently.

Due to the small size of this website I feel like subreddit style communities built around tags are possible but far off in the future.

And right now I'm not really such if I should follow a ton of tags I might have a general interest in or just a few I'm very interested in. AskHubski is currently dominating my "feed" but I'm not sure how or if I can to balance it out.

EDIT: Also if i'm interested in movies I'm not sure if I should follow some/all/any of "movie" "movies" "film" "cinema" etc

I would. I'd like to say I could handle it. As someone with a severe allergy to some food products I've always been somewhat fearful of my life ending with little warning. I'm not afraid of dying and would say I've become a more realistic rational person due to my appreciation for the frailty of life and I'd think knowing the date of my death would bring me peace after a while of coming to terms with the shock.

I'm checking this place out as well. Not migrating, I'd say either this place has a ways to come or I have yet to discover all the features.

The comment sections are much better and less cluttered... but of course it may just be a matter of time.

The stereotype has existed for a long time and I'm glad some pride is finally being associated with such interests which earn the label. And as the pride swelled, so did the marketing, posers, and exploitation.

I see it as a growing pain. The stereotype is being accepted and even glorified. There will always be the many empty individuals who latch on to some label and try as hard as they can to be something, be anything, just so they won't be nothing.

Maybe next time you see a person "posing" as a nerd try to be nice. strike up a conversation about something you like and ask them about what they like. If it appears they are "faking" you don't need to verbally assault them and stick up your nose at the "inferior brand of person."

Maybe even have the courage and confidence to try and cut through this label he or she wrapped themselves in and ask about their family, their "real" life. He or she probably is looking to fit in or for a friend, even if they aren't consciously aware of it.

This is exactly why I can't stand Big Bang Theory. Now Community on the other hand showcases some real(ish) people who happen to enjoy some "nerdy" things.
