Well, it doesn't leave it flavorless. It'll still taste like sugar water that's a bit acidic, it just won't taste like orange juice until the reintroduce citrus oils.

If you ever make marmalade I also suggest adding a little citrus oil at the end!

Never made marmalade (is marmalade a jelly or a jam?), but I'll keep that in mind. Where do you get the citrus oil from/how do you extract it?

Well, I'd say it's distinct from both because it includes the peel and has a very distinct flavor whereas between jelly and jam the biggest difference is texture. But closer to jam, since jellies usually just use juice.

You could theoretically press citrus peels, but I just buy the stuff online. You can get cold pressed oil from all kinds of varieties of citrus for pretty cheap (a few dollars per ounce, a ton of servings considering how strong the stuff is) if you look around a bit.
