Of all the renditions of Summertime that I've heard, this particular rendition by Sidney Bechet I find by far the most visceral and emotionally gripping. Also, my springtime anthem, Cortex - L'Enfant Samba. Best enjoyed while cruising on a sunny day with the the windows rolled down
Yesterday I heard this Police song which reminded me of the first time I heard it. My neighbor, Ian had an exchange student from Sweden named Elizabeth staying with his family. She was a year older than me. We were in his room listening to the Police's greatest hits. I was sitting on the ground and she was next to me. This song came on and the next thing I remember, she grabs my hand and started kissing it and going to town on my fingers etc. It was a great introduction to a song :)
This Head I Hold by Electric Guest. You will snap your fingers and want to turn it up. Great song.
George Watsky - Remember Pale Kid Raps Fast? That's Watsky While he is primarily a rapper, his best song in my opinion is Tiny Glowing Screens Pt. 2., which is a poem. If you listen to nothing else of his, check this out.
He's my favorite spoken word artist if you like that stuff. Drunk Text to God is just great. A song you don't have up there is Strong as an Oak but I hope you know it!
Strong as an Oak is a fantastic song. I have Nothing Like the First Time and Cardboard Castles on my ipod and have been listening to the albums non stop for four or five days. I hadn't heard Drunk Text to God before, but it was awesome. My favorite poem other than Tiny Glowing Screens pt 2 is S for Lisp. If you haven't seen it, you should check out his TED Talk.
Swans always a good listen! I've been listening to the new Cloud Nothings almost nonstop this week. I'll be seeing a band from Seattle called Tacocat tonight and I'm pretty excited about it. They're great. UPDATE: Tacocat puts on a fun show and they're all very nice people. Go see them if they end up playing in your city!
Super late, but I completely forgot that Swans have a new album out! Listening to it right now, I love their sound so much, it's like the soundtrack to a Cormac McCarthy novel.
Anathema - Judgement Hey why not. Also checked out some Grouplove albums. EDIT: oh shit it looks like the Lips' Dark Side companion album dropped thenewgreen -- side note, I got that news from Facebook. Like the little things in the corner of my feed. Are those actually helpful now?
