Well, I really enjoyed that ecib, thank you. Great idea for a post and for a potential series of posts. While I listened to Willie and gazed at the masterpiece, it occurred to me that there seems to be more food on the table than on their plates. Also, the fellas really rocked the sandals back then. Also, Christ is quite the celebrity in this. All the attention surrounds him and it all seems very "human" while he seems unaffected by it all. You can see the pleading, gossiping, plotting etc and then there's Christ, above it all. Also, the vantage point of the painting is amazing. Like they are literally dining at the edge of a precipice that overlooks all of existence. Pretty amazing. That was fun. Thanks.
I love Willie's song with this piece on so many levels. So many of the lyrics are hilarious/interesting/enjoyable set against the backdrop of this painting: Jesus's main thesis and message
Beyond all that, it's funny to re-imagine Jesus and his apostles as just a gathering of friends at the pub, which actually humanizes them and is a completely realistic portrayal provided any of them ever actually existed. Also, Willie Nelson himself as a character has many similarities to Jesus the character both in the way he physically looks, along with his general attitude and outlook. Lastly, the concept album Yesterday's Wine is steeped in religion if you listen to the actual songs. The theme of the 'imperfect man' communicating with God is central. Plus it's just one of my favorite songs by Willie who is, inarguably, The Man. Edit: Oh yeah, Jesus's first miracle was turning water into wine. How did I not remember that before posting?Miracles appear

Yesterday's wine
I'm yesterday's wine
(Christian transubstantiation literally holds that the wine in your cup is the blood of Jesus)
Huge jag, that b_b. I'm a non-believer anyway, so I suppose it doesn't matter to me. Being forcibly raised in what is, essentially, the Church of England (even the American iteration of it), one develops a huge superiority complex over the mainland Europe religions (especially Catholicism, even though our sect was just lifted from the Catholics to begin with). It's not my fault; it's my upbringing!
No, no man. That's cool. You have a huge superiority complex informed by and projected towards various ethos, none of which you subscribe to. I get it :)Being forcibly raised in what is, essentially, the Church of England (even the American iteration of it), one develops a huge superiority complex over the mainland Europe religions
B_b would never allow for someone to try and maintain that the Catholics were any less insane then they actually are. Anglicans though…
Growing up a catholic school kid and being a fan of Willie, none of that was lost on me. -Well done ecib. Willie is certainly the man. I definitely laughed when I heard that first line.
