yas shoes. i'm obscenely jealous of men's shoes because of their simplicity. my new boss is wearing a stellar pair of double monkstraps today and I'm sure it took him no time at all to choose them out of his closet wherein I had to try and predict how much walking I was going to do, whether I had sock liners to wear, what my plans after work are etc. before I made my decision.
guilty: skipped it last week when I said I was going to go because of gut trouble (see post elsewhere in pub about recent surgery), but I have started tracking my food on MFP again
Allen Edmonds Park Avenue when I'm feeling dressy. Which is not often as I'm a jeans and tee shirt kinda guy. But these were a nice investment. 360 degree Goodyear welt, calfskin upper, and for the life of the shoe, the company will completely re-craft them. It may be a decade before I'd even need to look into that, but these are seriously kicks I could have for the rest of my life. When I was buying them, there was an old man in the shop that was wearing a pair of his that were over 20 years old and they looked fantastic.
Meriadoc luuuuvs his allen edmonds. as do i. they are beautiful and a great investment.
Double monkstraps sounds like something you would curse an enemy with in Harry Potter. I bought my first pair of Carolina 118s in 1991. They finally gave up the ghost, after two resolings and some serious leather work, in 2006. This new pair suffered a little in the 405 adventure but I suspect they'll carry me through 2021 at least.
As an off-hand remark in regards to men's style. It is so unbelieveably expensive, and as a college student it is even worse. I mean I would love a pair of double monkstraps, but I can't really drop like 200 for a nice pair. On top of the fact you can't just buy shoes like those and not have an outfit to go along with it. It's crazy...
That's true but it's been my experience that men's stuff is actually built to last. Brands that I used to trust to last a decent amount of time have degraded in quality recently. Lots of things cost $200 in the women's fashion world but you can still end up with shite.
