Came here from reddit, there was a top post I think on /r/technology talking about censorship on reddit and somebody commented a list of alternative sites which included this one so I just poked my head over out of curiousity. Haven't left reddit and probably don't plan to but yall seem neat.
I personally don't see this place as a reddit "alternative". It's way too small and slow. But it's a cool place to hang out :) I comment and participate way more here. Feels a little less like shouting in the void compared to other social media spaces.
I have been here for over four years and it doesn't seem like that long. I more lurk on here than post but it's still a place for good quality content. Some of this stuff makes you really think.
I've seen a few posts about reddit alternatives since the tencent investment. I've had this account for a few years, but sort of stopped visiting in the midst of a bunch of stuff and forgot about hubski for a while. I'm happy it doesn't seem to have changed a lot. Compared to reddit the posts and disccussion seem to be better quality and people are mostly friendlier. Not exactly a total replacement for reddit since there isn't as much entertainment value, but that's sort of nice, anyways. I think I'll try and stick around for a while.
John Cusack blocked me on Twitter at some point which is weird. I'm not a prolific tweeter. I went to the dentist for the first time in a decade. No cavities. Floss daily and quit smoking. I've been too depressed to brush my teeth for days during that decade so I wasn't sure that didn't do severe damage. Odds are I have a new, slightly less shitty, job.
Do you have any idea on why John Cusack blocked you? That seems so random and out of the blue.
I thought the same thing. I really don't know. I antagonized some campaign strategist once. She's a neoliberal who worked for Republicans before. But I don't think he's a fan of neoliberals since he's a Bernie fan. Someone on Twitter asked to see some screen grabs of Cusack going after an account that blocked her. I was pretty surprised when I looked up Cusack and realized he'd blocked me. Like I didn't even know he uses Twitter
What an odd situation. The last thing I would expect is a block from a celebrity. Also I'm surprised that Cusack liked to block individuals. If I was a celebrity, the last thing I would do is block people on Twitter because there would be some many people to go through. It seems like pointless to go after people that might disagree with you or insult you when you have thousands upon thousands of followers.
Is it me or there are quite a few new faces around lately? Welcome all! Leaving for Colombia next week, still don't have anything planned. Anyone has some off the beaten path recommendations for Colombia, Ecuador and Peru? I get that the Machu Pichu is awesome (and we're gonna go) but otherwise a lot of the suggested things are very similar and I like getting sucked into weird adventures.
Sorry to hear that, Steve. I know how hard it is.
Valentine's day is tomorrow and my date is making it a surprise. Also, it is a beautiful, rainy day in California and I have a performance at a hotel in a couple weeks.
As a man who causes agony to those I love whenever I participate in karaoke, I envy you.
So my mother-in-law either cancelled or forgot to pay on her netflix last week. RIP my access to the last non-free tv-like service I was still using (:
Returning to the US for a holiday in a few months. We're going to Chicago and Ann Arbor, which will be a first for both of us. What should we do while we're there? Also, I'm thinking about changing jobs.
Thank you for the recommendation! I wasn't aware of deep dish pizza being a Chicago thing, so we'll certainly keep an eye out for it. We're both kind of off meat, so I expect we'll skip the beef. Are you from the Chicago area? Any galleries or museums or other sites you particularly recommend?
