It’s my 15 year wedding anniversary. I’m surprising my wife with a trip to Paris. Have you been there before? What should I do? Bonus points for romance and adventure.
Onward!
d'orsay beats the louvre any day. less kids playing on the priceless egyptian shit, more van gogh. not like anything i come up with will top what ooli suggested, but i really loved montmartre -- just avoid the moulin rouge neighborhood, it's a dump now
adventure : the catacombes , hug her when she is scared of skulls romance: The green walk , kiss her under some tree when no one is around, and you feel you are the only one in the city Since it's you: Every Sunday morning between 11h and 14h there is a traditional music group playing accordion and dancing in the bottom of rue de la Contrescarpe ( this street is the place of the oldest bar in paris and pretty nice in itself, and if I'm around, I'll try to meet you)
Montmartre is enchanting. (Think of the movie, Amelie.) At the foot of the steps, across the street, is a little street cafe with outdoor seating. Sit there. Get a cappuccino and a croissant. Get comfortable. Watch. Sip your coffee. Tear off small bites of your croissant. Watch Paris flow by you. The tourists. The locals. The delivery boys. Have another sip of coffee. Do not set a schedule or a time limit. Just be. And take it in for a while. It will be deeply affecting. --- Any time you happen to be walking anywhere, and feel a little hungry, look for one of the little neighborhood restaurants that are below street level. Doesn't matter where. Walk down the steps and into ... Paris. A waiter will seat you. They don't speak English. You don't speak French. But it won't matter. Get the house red wine, and whatever the special is. Giving ourselves fully over to experiences, without planning, pretense, or expectations is generally the way to have the most amazing and memorable (and romantic) time. Enjoy. There are plenty of reasons why the simple mention of Paris brings peoples' emotions to the fore. Go with it. Let Paris happen to you, and you will have an amazing time.

Awesome! How many days do you have? Off the top of my head: - Le Moulin Rouge : went there with my family for the 50 year wedding anniversary of my grandpa, everybody loved the show. Its a unique experience you will remember. - Le Louvre / Orsay - Jardin du Luxembourg - Sacré Coeur - Get up the Tour Montparnasse if you want to have the best view of Paris -- A side trip to Versailles is easily doable if you want to go there. I will be there so if you need anything anytime, just ping me!
One of my bucket list items is to get lost in the Louvre for a day in an altered state... Sure, there's the mona lisa - but the louvre is absolutely massive with so much more to see! Also, cheese in France is next level so a little picnic with wine, charcuteries and cheese somewhere (bonus points if you can see the Eiffel tower) sounds super romantic.
We can see the Eiffel Tower from our hotel room! I love the picnic idea, thank you for that. I have already purchased our tix for the Louvre. Now I just need the drugs ;-)
