That's like decaf coffee or non-alcoholic beer.

Seriously, this is a good thing. No use getting high if that's not what you are looking for.

However, I still want to legalize the 'get high' kind. I don't much care if people drink to get drunk, or smoke to get high. I'd rather my tax dollars not go to prevention and incarceration for weed. Prohibition doesn't work.

I have no position on legalizing drugs, per se. My "ha" was thinking that so-called medical pot use would shrink 99% if you couldn't get high consuming it.

In 2004 between 12-13% of people in jail or in prison were there because of Marijuana related charges. About 55% of Federal prisoners were there for drug related offenses. That's insane.

As someone that doesn't like frivolous tax expenditures, I'd think you would have some sort of position on the legalization of drugs. ?

We have lots of legal drugs and lots of illegal drugs.

I didn't say that I didn't have facts and opinions, I said I didn't have a position.

PS - I think you are conflating your 12 and 55 percent numbers.

I like the way you say this. I've always disliked that we live in a society that puts pressure on people to think something (and, unfortunately, say what they think, too). Some areas are so gray that we can read and reflect for years and never come to a final opinion or belief. Not all opinions are created equal, and often, those of us who are the most educated on an issue are the least vocal.

To have an opinion on everything is the American way.

I agree it would reduce the medical pot use by a huge amount. However, I think most that support medical pot see it in part as a step on the road to legalization, and don't mind the over-prescription of it. That's a big reason why I voted for it, anyway.

legalization was on the ballot in Colorado this year. Basically an individual over 21 years of age con possess a small amount and can use it at will. No prescriptions, no doctors' notes, just you and your weed. And they have a plan to tax it and use the dollars to fund education.

We'll find out how it goes on Tuesday.

I hear the same vote is in place for Washington and Oregon. You won't be able to just light up a joint on the street though. You'll have to do it at home. I think it'll pass in one of those three states at least. It will be interesting to see what the feds do after. I think they might just look the other way for a bit and see where it goes.

The Feds only go after the med dispensaries in Colorado when they are too close to a school or violate some other part of the law. But even then... "going after them" usually amounts to a few letters.

Considering that they've been actively going after medical dispensaries in California, even though they are declared legal by the state, i doubt that passing these will change much in the feds' approach, unfortunately. One can hope though.

We have a large number of them here in Ann Arbor, and I haven't heard of any Fed interactions, even though our MI Attorney General hates them.

It's an interesting issue. Conservatives are often the most anti-drug, but they also usually hate the Feds overruling state law. But not so much for gay rights...

Yeah, I don't see much hope when this is the DEA chief. It would be hilariously funny if it wasn't for the countless lives affected by the policies enforced by her and her agency.
