To New York from Chicago. I'd like to fly to Argentina or Norway. May I comment, that flying blows my mind as it should blow yours. Flying is only about 100 years old and look how we have conquered it. Louis CK is right. You are on a big chunk of aluminum (or carbon fiber if you are on something really new) flying through the air, like a bird. Its common place now and it has enabled so much. The world is tiny to us. Nothing is out of reach. Everytime I am on a flight I ask for the window seat so I can stare out of it during the flight and marvel at what's going on. Just a bonus to blow your mind, if you think that flight is easy to conquer in over 100 years, keep in mind that the Wright brothers flew in 1903 and Pearl Harbor occurred in 1941.
I've always enjoyed that Louis CK bit, it's right on the money. Most people feel so entitled to things that they forget their wonder.
"Flying is the worse one [...] They act like your flight was like a cattle car in Germany in the 40s. [...] They made us sit there on the runway for 40 minutes. Oh really, what happened next, did you fly through the air incredibly, like a bird, did you partake in the miracle of human flight you non-contributing zero. You're Flying! Its amazing! [...] Your sitting in a chair in the sky."
I flew to Sydney exactly one year ago and flew back 3 months later. It was a horrendous flight. Even with valium and ambien I was unhappy. I didn't want to drink because I crave cigarettes like no other when I drink so that didn't help. I passed out for a majority of the flight but when I woke up there were still 5 hours until landing time. I want to travel back to South America. My best friend from college has been living all over Europe for the past few years so hopefully whereever he is this semester I can go and visit him.
Where in South American? I've spent some time there, my wife more so than me, but I'd be glad to give some Peru advice. Get there!
My boyfriend is Peruvian remember! I've been to Costa Rica and the Galapagos. I would love to go to Peru or back to Costa Rica. I was only 12 when I was there so I didn't get to enjoy it to it's fullest, if you know what I mean. :D
Yeah, I guess that makes sense... I didn't think that one through. I remember he and I talking about Machu Picchu, would you go there? Train or back-country hike?
The last time I flew was from Seattle to New Orleans, with a stop off in Chicago. Next flight is going to be to Manchester.
My next flight will be to New Orleans! I'm flying down in March. I last flew to San Francisco from NYC.
New Orleans is one of my favorite places I've ever been. I'd try and describe why but then I could never do it justice. I can't believe a place like that actually exists.
Last time I went somewhere was back to my college town after I realized I forgot some Christmas presents. A two hour flight sure beats a five hour drive. Lately I have flying locally doing training in multi-engine aircraft. I really want to go to Africa because it its one of two continents I haven't been to.
The last time I flew was during the summer, coming home from World Pride 2012 in London. There are a lot of places I'd like to fly to, but while I'm on Hubski I can think of no better place to go than Detroit!
Then come soon, so we can hang :) I'd live to visit London, I've not spent any time in Europe --this is ridiculous. This year it will happen.
Chicago to Las Vegas, for work. Or, more accurately, a return flight home from Las Vegas to Chicago. I've always been fascinated with flight, as my grandfather has been a pilot for the majority of his ninety years. He still flies. In World War II, he was an engineer for a squadron of planes in the South Pacific, the Bat Eyes, and he purchased a plane of his own in the 1950's. He has many stories, and I was fortunate to be able to go up in the air with him several times as a kid. That said, commercial flight terrifies me and for the first time in my life I wished I'd done what most people do and secure pharmaceuticals for both legs of the trip. I hadn't been up in a commercial jet since my first flight, in July of 2001. Ever since my last flight - the Las Vegas trip - I've been reading up on commercial flight and subscribed to both r/flying and r/aviation in order to get better accustomed to it all. I hope to secure my own pilot's license eventually, much the same way people who are violently opposed to guns will get a license and visit a firing range. I developed a fear out of thin air and need to get over it.
Fort Lauderdale ,FL to Boston, MA. Then a 2 hour bus ride to Dover, NH. Unfortunately, I went there for my grandfather's funeral. I would love to fly to California. I've lived all up and down the East Coast, but have never been to the West Coast.
I'm sorry about your grandpa. California is a place that took me a long while to get to as well. Just made my first trip, of any consequence, there this year. Visited the San Diego and LA area's. Good times, beautiful country and no shortage of debauchery.
Thank you! San Diego is the area that I would like to visit, maybe next year.
Cool, good luck with that. I really enjoyed San Diego; great food, great weather and geography and the people seemed pretty chill.
Halifax, NS>Boston, MA>Newark, NJ>New Delhi, India. I missed my connection in Newark and had to stay the night in a hotel, but I could see the NYC skyline from my window so I didn't mind at all. On the way back it was New Delhi, India>Brussels, Belgium>Montreal, QC>Halifax, NS. First time flying by myself too, it was fun.
That's quite the trip, what was the occasion? Just a holiday?
I fly pretty often, but the last time I flew was Shanghai (PVG) --> Tokyo (NAR) --> Washington (IAD) --> Jacksonville (JAX). So far this has been one of my favorite trips, as I had a 21 hour layover in Tokyo that allowed me to spend a night in Japan (^^)! I'd like to fly to Brazil and Chile one day if I have the money, I've got friends in both countries and everything they tell me about their homes is fascinating.
Buffalo to Alabama and back. I suppose I'd like to fly out to the west coast (of America) to do some sightseeing, though I'd like to save some for a proper Americana road trip. Besides that, a jaunt to Europe would be nice, specifically the Alps.
An americana road trip is something I am glad I have done. I grew up in Michigan and went to the University of Montana. When I first went out there I was with a friend and we drove his VW Bus across the country for 2 weeks prior to arriving in Missoula. I think in order to call it a proper Americana road trip it would have to of been longer than 2 weeks but still, it was quite an experience. I was 19 years old, had next to no money and still managed to have a blast. I've also taken some great Amtrak trips from Whitefish MT to Ann Arbor MI and they've been a fantastic way to meet people from all over and catch a fleeting glimpse of the US. Good luck with your future road trip, be sure to put Glacier National Park on your list of places to visit.
Amsterdam is at the top of my list of places to visit. Just got word from my wife that she is going to Scotland in March for work. I think I'll tag along with her, I'm looking forward to it.
I'm currently living here! It is a great city, definitively should be on the top of places to visit. Though you should probably visit in the spring/summer, around when the tulips are open. Right now the weather is not very nice. I haven't seen the sun for a month.
I'm currently visiting family in Michigan, so I'm quite familiar with not seeing the sun for long stretches of time.
Last place: to Vancouver from Toronto. Next Place: Key West!! soon. Best place: Hawaii where having friends who live there make it even more best. Longest non-stop: Beijing - Toronto, probably although Tel Aviv - Montreal took a long while too. Most Time Zones: 12 hour difference Beijing-Toronto Shortest: Toronto - North Bay (probably). Longest stop-over/delay/: anyone? Most generous airline when problems on a connection made me miss an overseas flight: Lufthansa --
You are well traveled lil, which doesn't surprise me one bit.
That's great! Good luck getting back to that place, I used to have lucid dreams of flying when I was a boy and they were wonderful. Even though it was only for a short ride, did you fly anywhere interesting?
Just bought a plane ticket from Vancouver to Miami. Pretty stoked on it.
Nice, you will have to send her my regards. Have fun champ.
Seeing CM Guitar would make me a happy fella. She is amongst a handful of people that embody a really fun era of my life. Hug her, and hug her tightly.
I flew to Alice Springs from Amsterdam, via London, Singapore and Sydney. It took almost 4 days with all these transfers. Some airports are fine: nice shops, recliners where you can sleep/rest or watch TV, free internet and decent coffeeshops. But mostly you're treated as cattle. I would like to fly to small airports, like one I visited in the peruvian jungle: a straw hut next to a grassy runway. You stow your own luggage in the back of the plane and sit next to the pilot!
That is an interesting observation, I travel a good bit in the States and I too can appreciate a good airport. Charlotte NC has rocking chairs and they are really nice. Free Wi-Fi is also a must. From a spoiled brat standpoint, I would also ad that a good sushi restaurant and a nice bar with creative cocktails would be nice. -I've yet to find either.
My job requires a lot of travel. I have someone that works in a "support" position for my role and she has to travel once or maybe twice a year to meet with us. She lives in Phoenix. Twice now she has opted to drive to our meetings. They have been in Chicago and once in Ft. Lauderdale. -Her fear of flying is insane IMO.
I just flew from Raleigh Durham, NC to Detroit Michigan. I would like to fly to Amsterdam.
