Placing a weight on recent content seems like a great idea. It more accurately predicts what a follower will see. Also, wtf, I'm interested in music, bikes, and gun culture? I think I submitted one link about guns once, haha. Maybe I'm wrong? :) Edit: That last sentence made me think. Maybe "Things I'm interested in" which has the function of telling new users what content they can expect to see pushed to their feed from me should also include the tags of posts I share when performing the equation. That is really what I'm interested in along with my own submissions. Especially for someone like me, who is more of a talker and 'sharer' (what a clumsy word) than a link submitter...just reading my submitted links could really skew and/or not represent what you're getting if you follow me.
Funny, I just came here to say what you did in your edit. I'll make it more recent, and make your shares a component of the mix. Hm. The best way to do it would be to use your post/share ratio to create the mix. Everyone gets a personal equation. If there's one thing I know about ecib, it's that he loves his bikes and guns.
You do really seem hardcore: #music
#bikes
#gunculture
#programming I picture a Trek leaning against a gun safe, underneath an Anthrax poster, lit by the glow of a LCD.
That's hilarious. I think it is a good idea to have "shares" weighted heavily too. They're going to be just as important as "tags used" regarding who I should follow. I like shortstories, askhubski, tng, space and starwars. I'd say that's pretty accurate.
