Today we have two updates of note.
First, you can now hide posts. This removes them from your feed. Currently, you can only hide posts within your feed. We will see if we want to move this functionality elsewhere after using it for a bit. You can thank <span><a class="ajax" href="at?id=syncretic">syncretic</a>~ for this new feature.
To see the posts that you have hidden, or to unhide them, click on the 'hidden posts' link in your controls.
Second, as <span><a class="ajax" href="at?id=dunkellic">dunkellic</a>~ suggested, you can now see the tags that a user has recently used the most in their profile.
As always, feedback is much appreciated!
p.s. Two updates in two days. Let’s not get used to it. :)
Wow, I'm really impressed with how fast you've been implementing new ideas. The interested in portion is great, as is hiding posts and being able to undo that.
Hey mk, I just noticed something a bit odd. My profile page says I'm interested in #photography and #dubstep. I did submit a few things under those tabs, but it was like 400+ days ago and I was just bored testing the system. I went through and deleted all of my posts under those tags, is there any way you could "rescan" my profile or something? I don't want potential followers to get the wrong idea about what sort of articles I typically share. Now I mostly post #science, #technology, #education, #politics, #thehumancondition, stuff like that.
Placing a weight on recent content seems like a great idea. It more accurately predicts what a follower will see. Also, wtf, I'm interested in music, bikes, and gun culture? I think I submitted one link about guns once, haha. Maybe I'm wrong? :) Edit: That last sentence made me think. Maybe "Things I'm interested in" which has the function of telling new users what content they can expect to see pushed to their feed from me should also include the tags of posts I share when performing the equation. That is really what I'm interested in along with my own submissions. Especially for someone like me, who is more of a talker and 'sharer' (what a clumsy word) than a link submitter...just reading my submitted links could really skew and/or not represent what you're getting if you follow me.
Funny, I just came here to say what you did in your edit. I'll make it more recent, and make your shares a component of the mix. Hm. The best way to do it would be to use your post/share ratio to create the mix. Everyone gets a personal equation. If there's one thing I know about ecib, it's that he loves his bikes and guns.
You do really seem hardcore: #music
#bikes
#gunculture
#programming I picture a Trek leaning against a gun safe, underneath an Anthrax poster, lit by the glow of a LCD.
That's hilarious. I think it is a good idea to have "shares" weighted heavily too. They're going to be just as important as "tags used" regarding who I should follow. I like shortstories, askhubski, tng, space and starwars. I'd say that's pretty accurate.
Awesome! Can I ask what "recently used the most" means? Is it like, most common in the last 10 posts or something? Seriously, great features. At this rate, in a year, this site will actually be a fully functional spaceship.
Judging by the posts above, maybe a little bit ;) I'm not gonna lie, I'm looking forward to the Hubski API with bated breath, and these new features just make me more and more excited. Can you imagine a match.com kind of feature to find people you'd probably like to follow based on interests? Gaaah!

Funny you mention that....
Nah, happily married for 8+ years. But I did mention to mk that if these types of sites can introduce people based on like interests, surely we can.
So, when do you sleep? Nice work mk, but I'm curious as to why you would want to have the hidden posts retrievable in controls? Is this just so that if you accidentally "hide" something you can undo it?
That's it. I thought it would be annoying to have a confirmation each time. EDIT: I also might start auto-unhiding after 200 hidden posts or so. You probably won't see them anymore anyway, and there's not much point in keeping track of them.Is this just so that if you accidentally "hide" something you can undo it?
He's deprecating following tags, not their existence. It seems to me that mk intends for tags to be a way to discover users with similar interests, not just follow a topic by itself. That's what reddit is for.
This is some impressively fast turnaround. Being able to hide posts sounds like it could be useful. So what's in tomorrow's update? ;)
