I still can't decide about the pairing up of pen pals or having it random. There have been a few for either side of the debate. If those interested wouldn't mind commenting to vote about how to go about this that'd be great.
Also, some have expressed interest in multiple pen pals. That's total fine by me. If you'd like multiple just let me know.
I'll let this thread go on for a little bit longer so that others that might be interested but haven't seen this can join in and then we'll solidify the pairing method and be on our way.
Hi B_C, Sorry if my post was confusing. I'm not into the penpal experiment. I don't think I can keep it up. I applaud your efforts though - the personal handwritten notes will be rare and valuable museum items in the future. Have fun with it - you've got a great response. We need signs of life, love, and caring given the carnage today. so sad. Lil
Thank you for your meaningful response. Someone will be devoid of a great pen pal without you in this, but I understand you have your reasons.
I'll not be offended if you all decide otherwise, that's just my preference. Plus, it's far less work for you BLOB_CASTLE. Simple = better.I still can't decide about the pairing up of pen pals or having it random.
-I'll just go ahead and say that I'm only interested if it's random. I don't really want to participate in some sort of demographics experiment. Just want to connect with another person in an old-school format.
I agree with you. There's just something about the concept of systematic pairing I enjoy. I'll see what the response to this one is now that I've explicitly asked for input. I'm thinking that more are leaning toward the random pairing.
Include me in the plan to pen pal and improve handwriting simultaneously! Thanks for sharing the idea BLOB CASTLE
I'll chime in and say that I'd much prefer random allocation and that I'm up for multiple pen pals.
I am not in. Starting grad school in the fall. Moving multiple times this summer. I'd probably fail.
I'll take that into consideration. It seems most are for the random though.
I am, unfortunately, out of this. Seems like an awesome idea but I'm too busy and probably wouldn't write back. :)
Was there a previous post or anything that detailed this further?
Looks like I'm the idiot that missed the "original thread" link at the top. Oops. Thanks for the link, though, I would be interested in doing this.
I have no opinion on the random/not. I don't want thenewgreen though. And I only want 1. :D
It's nothing against you! I just would rather get to know someone else!
I know, I was kidding. It would sort if defeat the purpose.
I'm leaning towards random. However, if there was to be a systematic pairing system, how might it work?
I was thinking something along the lines of large age gap and possible restricting it to same or differing genders. If it were the same gender, the elder could talk the younger through some issues they might be having. If differing genders, the same could be done but through a different lens.
If you were to go random I would think the opposite would be a better idea. Personally, as a college student in his early 20's, I don't know what I would write or how well I relate to someone who is in his or her 30's or 40's. I feel it would be more rewarding if it were with someone of my own age, though not necessarily my own gender mind you. I also feel like since the average age on a site like Hubski tends to skew low there may not be enough older candidates to match up with young ones. So basically I think I now support a systematic system based on pairing people of the same age, irrespective of gender.
Aye, and I imagine that Hubski's population - which is probably heavily male - would not allow for sorting based on gender either.
I too am a 21 year old college student, which is why I like the idea of the pairing. I think that there are a surprising amount of elder Hubskinites. Even if someone in their 30s-40s were to correspond with someone like us, I think that that'd be fairly rewarding as well.
Well that's just my two cents. Whatever you decide to do I'll still be glad to participate.
