TWO COMMENTS WOW. Do you ever have moments where suddenly a band, song, or album makes sense to you and sounds better than it ever has before? I'm in the midst of one of those moments. For the first time I'm listening to Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective with my headphones on and it's clicking for the first time. I've had some of their music for a while now and never got super into it but oh my god. In this moment it is wonderful. I think these headphones are really allowing their sound landscape to show through, which is a big part of what I was missing. This is incredible how textured this is with something other than ear buds.
I've been sporting a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pros since Christmas. Nothing spectacular, but I've immensely enjoyed these headphones since getting them. Solid sound and comfortable (for my head at least).
Nice, I've had the same model for a few years now! I like the attachment it has so I can plug into my stereo and listen to my vinyl records. I think that is where you really maximize the potential of these headphones; listening to stuff on my laptop doesn't really compare!
Nice. A lot of the classrooms at my school use those. I have a similar (cheaper) model but I don't use them anymore. When my dog was just a pup she destroyed my room one day and the pads on those headphone were one of the casualties =(. I agree though, good sound especially for how affordable they are.
Wow, what school do you go to where they use these in classrooms? (If you don't mind my asking). I've seen 202s and 219s but never 280s or anything comparable. I'm also not at a school with a strong music/recording program though, so that plays a part. That's horrible. You need to hide just about everything worth owning with small animals and babies around. Replacement pads aren't terribly expensive though, might be worth looking into.
Music major at an arts school in downtown Chicago. there's also a fair amount of headphones the school uses that i can't stand (shure srh240s are what i have to work with right now for my technology class). I've thought about getting some replacement pads but i have two other pairs now that i like more than my senns - V moda m80s and Beyer dt770s. I'm planning on getting a pair of hifiman he400s this summer, too, so i have my headphone department covered =).
no, i don't know much about it but i have a couple friends that go there and they like it. I wonder where their living facilities would even be since they don't share with the other bigger schools in the loop. I go to Columbia College, to answer your question.
Good for you. Breaking through on AC isn't always the easiest, but it pays off in spades. They most definitely are a truly original band. And like Noah Lennox says, once you're able to hear through the layers, you realize that all they do is write pop music. Try this bit of a song on headphones.
I absolutely love this. Thank you so much for posting it. I'm immediately a fan. Loved the lyrics, the music, her voice, the video and everything. Thanks!
I posted this artist as a separate post yesterday, but I can't help myself:
Some good stuff in this thread. Does anyone else find that pages start loading quite slow once there a more than a few youtube videos are embedded into a thread?
I turned it off shortly after that. Don't know what you're thinking, but is there a way to make the embed a static image until you click on it or something along those lines?
Here is a remarkable performance by Pavement in Germany in 1994. My favorite song is the one they open with, Pueblo (or pueblo domain)
this band is taking a hold of me. I haven't been this excited about listening to music since I first discovered the Replacements like 5 years ago. and here is one of the most soulful songs I've ever heard. she wrote it at age 11 or 14. She plays the guitar with the strings upside down (lefty playing a guitar strung for a righty)
A friend of mine, Jim Roll recently released an album, his first in many years. I've been listening to it quite a lot the past two weeks. I've also been listening to "the Jimmers" past records. Here are two standouts from the new one:
Capturing the Greed
You Call That a Breakup
You can hear the entire album here: http://jimroll.bandcamp.com Here is a great tune of his off of a past album "Inhabiting the Ball" which was named in the top ten on Amazon editors' Best of 2002 rock list along with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Sea Change -nice company to be in. Bonnie and Clyde
I received a bunch of vinyl for christmas from my wife's aunt. In her collection she had some Bowie. I listened to "Let's Dance" in full. Good times: Went out to dinner with the wife and we sat in her car and listened to music that wasn't all children's songs. We heard: The Fruit Bats
Andrew Bird
Gillian Welch
and The Shins
Good times.
Someone sent me a playlist called 'Nice view, cold beer" which is definitely the feeling I got with these three tracks. Really nice summer tunes: Akshin Alizadeh - Southern Man Grammatik - Muy Tranquilo Kav Verhouzer ft. Saxophonic The new song from The Preatures eases the wait for a new Tame Impala album ever so slightly: And lastly, in the indie rock category:
Been getting back into these guys lately for some reason! Say Anything - I Want To Know Your Plans
Chicago I love horns in my music, and these guys definitely satisfy that need. Does Anybody Really Know What Time it is? - I find the piano intro soothing before the horns come in, and it rolls together really well. Beginnings - The horns in the end before the cowbells and noises are perfection to my ears Movin' In - The strong intro to this song, leading into Terry's voice is great. 25 or 6 to 4 - I love the horns in this song, their somewhat subtle undertone is some parts, their conquering of the melody in others is amazing. Also, in my own opinion, the albums go downhill after Chicago II (their first album was Chicago Transit Authority).
