Only thing its missing - users
For better or worse, Hubski's advertising strategy is such: 1) Rely on the sheer enthusiasm of a Hubski user 2) stickers. Hubski is like this giant intellectual hot tub where everyone joins and chills in a circle– the bigger it gets, the more empty area grows in the middle. I don't know how to apply that analogy effectively but I'm positive it'd be relevant!
Re #1 and #2 -I've never seen our "business plan" so effectively stream lined. Well done. As per the hot-tub analogy, I would agree with you that there is some value in your thinking there. My question is what is the ideal ratio of circle to middle? I always come to the 100k mark for some reason. It sounds HUGE but keep in mind how enormous other sites are. I feel like having 100k smart and thoughtful hubski users would be ideal. It could allow for branches of communities that are seemingly disparate but could overlap when the content called for it. I dunno. I hope to find out some day though. What I DO KNOW is that the idea of millions of users sounds awful.
It's just a slower paced site. Where most people actually take the time to write out long and well thought out comments. And that takes time. I agree that we are not many people actively commenting but it's actually quite nice because you get to know people really fast and they become more than just usernames. Can you genuinely name lots of Reddit users (excluding novelty accounts like shitty_watercolour)? I know I can't. But I can name lots of people on Hubski. Lurk moar man and you'll probably figure out quite fast wether or not it's a community you would like to be part of :)
I thunk hubski as a mix of old-school forums and reddit. The community feeling is that of a forum. Everyone is special, different, has his own ideas and interests and that is shown by the content that is shared and the comments that the person writes. In forums this was also similar, except that you also had profile pictures, signatures etc. -> makes it annoying. Here it's simplified, and the content and its quality is what counts :) Tags are similar to sub-forums, or sub-reddits. Following people is something that hubski does more efficient than other sites. I really like that we are not a big group of people but that we are also growing, slowly. The pace is good to get to know the people that are already there and then slowly add in the people that come. Hubski is SUPER

...it's not ...a ..quick Fix.
But then
....nothing truly worth while
...ever IS
Things just move slower here, man. Quality users over quantity thereof.
Hey simbha! Glad to hear you like it, I think if you stick around that sentiment will only grow. There's users here, lots of people lurk and share things and while the user base isn't huge, you can find a multitude of well educated and more importantly, caring, people here.
How many users are on Hubski? Is there a way to find out how many people are on here?
