Am I alone in my interest in starting a #styleski tag? I think we have a broad range of ages and places in life on this website that I would be interested in a slice of life, style tag for people to post their #ootd (outfit of the day) or ask for advice because style is so subjective and varies across fields. Additionally, I'm of the opinion that couture is one of the highest art forms. I know Meriadoc has thoughts, but I wouldn't start it if no one would participate.
I was about to post a self-deprecating comment and then I realized WAIT I actually have a motorcycle story. It's pretty interesting too. Flagging for when I get home so I can post it.
Oh fuck is tag of the week motorcycles? I am all over this. Also, what is wrong with this bike? Why is that price so reasonable? It's been keeping me up at night.
I don't know anyone who loves that vintage of BMW. The inline four was less loved than the inline three and the inline three was a lot less loved than the flat twin. That price seems to pretty much be what they go for. It's like an AMF Harley - yeah, it's a "classic" harley but... it's also kind of the worst classic harley you can own. If you're gonna go '80s half-tupperware:
Oh no way would I go for it. I don't have the wallet deep enough or the time of day to deal with a BMW. But I still found it an interesting bike nonetheless. I'm hoping to go with a Yahama FZ-07 or -09 in the new few months if things go as well as I hope they do.
http://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/2014-yamaha-fz-09-long-term-test"It’s the best thing ever!" I responded. "It’s absolutely incredible and blows everything else like it out of the water, and that’s before you factor in price. It’s also basically un-rideable and feels like it could be trying to kill me. This thing is so close. Someone just has to get it sorted."
I sat on one. They're really quite peculiar. You sort of feel as if you're in position to have your genitals tattooed. They were repulsive enough at the time that the dealer discouraged me from contemplating a purchase. When the guy in the Honda shirt calls it a "Do Not Order One" you can rest assured that sales will be slight.
arguewithatree and I are also dealing with 115 degree fucking weather with the humidity from hell in DC, so at least my outfits are limited to "literally the least I can get away with wearing" while keeping a jacket and winter socks at work because my office is an icebox. Summer isn't my fucking season, man.
I probably couldn't even commit to an outfit a day anyway. Maybe an "outfit of the moment" if I felt particularly inspired.
sign me up! I have some pretty strong opinions on socks, though - be warned.
Docs really are the most comfortable shoe. Stylish too, depending on the decade. And they last long enough for a single pair to be stylish, go out of style, and become stylish again. My mother (36) wore a pair of silver calf high quick lace docs while hiking all over Europe. She handed them down to me (19) when I was in middle school. They were totally all the rage at my8th grade winter dance.
I would at least watch for the posts. I keep an eye out on things on frugal male fashion and goodyear welt over on Reddit and sometimes male fashion advice but that one is more because I think it's silly a lot of the time.
it can be very silly. i never understood the obsession with chukkas
While I would follow such a tag I would probably not participate all that much outside of discussion. The only really pressing 'fashion' issue that I have at the moment is whether or not I could get away with wearing scrubs on clinic days just to switch things up from slacks and a button down. And I'm probably going to buy a pair anyway to wear as pjs.
yas shoes. i'm obscenely jealous of men's shoes because of their simplicity. my new boss is wearing a stellar pair of double monkstraps today and I'm sure it took him no time at all to choose them out of his closet wherein I had to try and predict how much walking I was going to do, whether I had sock liners to wear, what my plans after work are etc. before I made my decision.
guilty: skipped it last week when I said I was going to go because of gut trouble (see post elsewhere in pub about recent surgery), but I have started tracking my food on MFP again
Allen Edmonds Park Avenue when I'm feeling dressy. Which is not often as I'm a jeans and tee shirt kinda guy. But these were a nice investment. 360 degree Goodyear welt, calfskin upper, and for the life of the shoe, the company will completely re-craft them. It may be a decade before I'd even need to look into that, but these are seriously kicks I could have for the rest of my life. When I was buying them, there was an old man in the shop that was wearing a pair of his that were over 20 years old and they looked fantastic.
Meriadoc luuuuvs his allen edmonds. as do i. they are beautiful and a great investment.
Double monkstraps sounds like something you would curse an enemy with in Harry Potter. I bought my first pair of Carolina 118s in 1991. They finally gave up the ghost, after two resolings and some serious leather work, in 2006. This new pair suffered a little in the 405 adventure but I suspect they'll carry me through 2021 at least.
As an off-hand remark in regards to men's style. It is so unbelieveably expensive, and as a college student it is even worse. I mean I would love a pair of double monkstraps, but I can't really drop like 200 for a nice pair. On top of the fact you can't just buy shoes like those and not have an outfit to go along with it. It's crazy...
That's true but it's been my experience that men's stuff is actually built to last. Brands that I used to trust to last a decent amount of time have degraded in quality recently. Lots of things cost $200 in the women's fashion world but you can still end up with shite.
still style! I just want to make the personal more real in any way possible.
