If I, being the crotchety old fart that I am, walked in and saw that hotel I would walk right out, not the name of the place and put that in my "not my style" folder. 15ish years ago when I traveled a ton, the only things I wanted in a hotel were access to the internet (rare but doable), clean water and a staff that understood that I was working 2nd and 3rd shift jobs and please don't barge in during the day. A hotel is not an 'experience' for people like me who are in a hotel for work. Or hell maybe I'm the weirdo and this is going to sell like crazy. To this day the best hotel experience I ever had was Comfort Suites. They did not service your room unless you asked, they were suites with a workable kitchen, and they understood that you were there working. No bull, no real frills, just a place to store your crap, a place to have gear mailed to if needed and a place to decompress at the end of the day.
To be fair, they're about four years too late. That "my Crayolas are in open rebellion" look was a big thing in like 2010, 2012 - Conde Nast even did a write-up about it and how they, yes, were absolutely trying to woo millennials with their "Ikea, but expensive" look. Fortunately for all involved, it was a blip. The ones that were leaning heavily into the style have already remodeled because they discovered that making your hotel look like an AirBnB doesn't make people stay with you instead of an AirBnB. So most of the places that are actually paying attention have moved on. Note that the movement doesn't even rate a mention in 2014. Apologies for the wretched web-design and the slide show. Conde Nast: "so square we bought Reddit for street cred."
Seems an odd post from you cgod. What about this announcement do you find interesting?
The resurrected Circuit City will appeal to a new generation of Millennial techies, with clear, minimal aesthetics and innovative products such as 3D printers and drones
Wow, you're not kidding. I would expect complimentary gummy bears for all hhonors guests.
It's very McDonaldsish. No personality at all. At the same time, it does have some nice amenities... If the price was right I suppose I would stay there. I do prefer a local hostel though..
I like at least the attempt to address a "third space" environment.Tru by Hilton will offer modern and functional guest rooms and social connectivity with reimagined public spaces, including an open lobby comprised of four zones where guests can work, play, lounge and eat
