The other day <span><a class="ajax" href="at?id=cgod">cgod</a>~ <span><a title="http://hubski.com/pub?id=43911" href="http://hubski.com/pub?id=43911>suggested</a>~ that we should be able to get notifications for all comments on a particular post.
Today I added this as an option to the posts that you have saved.
Now you will get a notification when any new comment is made on a post that you have saved.
You can toggle these saved notifications on or off in your controls.
As always, feedback is much appreciated.
p.s. This function doesn't apply retroactively to the posts that you have already saved. If you want to add it to a currently saved post, unsave it then save it again.
p.p.s. In light of this change, we've been debating whether or not we should call 'saved' posts something else. Feel free to suggest an alternate name if you have one.
I like it. It conveys that you like the post and want to keep it, but it also means that you want to keep up to date with the post since, well, it IS a favorite post.
Thanks for listening your audience always :) BTW as mentioned yesterday (not sure you've seen that) I miss the nice blue casing we used to have before... Now regarding the notifications, I'm not sure my personal use is adapted:
- I tend to "up1" (I mean clicking on the wheel - the plus sign is verboten) often if I think it's a good post, I guess that's a light version of badge-ing and as far as I remember that counts as a "shared post"
- Saving an article means for me one that I reeeeeeeally and would love to find again later
- Following the comments is a bit of another league for me, maybe closer to "up1" ing though not necessarily "sharing", while I could also only "share" the "saved" items I really appreciate Am I hubskiing the wrong way around?
I share your sentiment. Saving a post doesn't necessarily mean I want to follow its comments, and vice versa. I think it would be better to have a separate "follow" function for posts and threads, but that could get quite cluttered. Ideally we should balance simplicity and ease of use with functionality, but I don't know precisely how.
Did it look blue? The background was #F0F0F0, and. the feed background was #FFFFFF. I think someone said it had a snowy feel. Anyone else miss it? (Or do you mean long ago?) I don't think you can hubski the wrong way. Yes, clicking the wheel shares, and saving does keep it for later. As scarp mentions, it's a goal to keep simplicity while enabling what people like to do. IMO it would be confusing to create an independent function that monitors activity on a post, -that's why I merged it with saved, and allowed you to turn it on or off. Therefore, you can either just save, or save and monitor. As most saved posts are old ones, I assume that this functionality will bring few notifications unless a user saves an active post. That's part of the reason why we were looking for a term that was better suited than 'saved'. It's definitely a tough balance. I don't want to keep function creep at a minimum. Ideally, I'd like Hubski to work well without much effort, but for those that want to tweak it, they should be able to get some extra functionality.BTW as mentioned yesterday (not sure you've seen that) I miss the nice blue casing we used to have before...
Am I hubskiing the wrong way around?
I understand and agree also with what scarp said. So I don't think this function would suit my usage but I can't complain. For some months and until a couple days, the controls on the left were clearly/nicely separated from the content by a kind of blue or grey casing. Anyway I'm not one to criticize any change, just saying I liked it better.
Flagged Posts? Or does that sound like it's flagged for spam? You could just call them Followed PostsIn light of this change, we've been debating whether or not we should call 'saved' posts something else. Feel free to suggest an alternate name if you have one.
I would definitely use 'followed' if it weren't such a potential source of confusion. We can follow people or tags. I think it would confuse the heck out of new users if we had to explain how following a post was different. :) Tracked isn't bad. I'm a bit partial to 'favorites' as sounds_sound suggests.
Is it doable that when you hit "save" it will prompt a question asking "would you like to track this post"? Yes or No This way, it still functions as an archive and as a means by which to get notifications on a case by case basis. It's not all or none.
Sure. I like how the notifications look with the little blue hub-wheels. Nice work.
