So as the title suggests what's your favourite chilled song(s)? I wanna try build up a playlist of some of the most relaxing tunes known to man.
I haven't really got a favourite as it's quite a hard choice and it changes frequently but these 3 will ALWAYS be in my list. No particular order;
Brian Eno - An Ending (Ascent) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKw5mbcE7VY Tripswitch - Deer Park https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrpTgV6l27I El LCD - Snö På Hisingen (CBL Carbonator Remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgeNaWfNbQA
Damn, I love chill music and there are many types of it but here is the ones that I adore:
Portico Quartet - Steepless http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWOXXjqRz9Y
Blockhead - Triptych pt. 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWbaG6zhIWw
Four Tet - As Serious As Your Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3qnzLHVdo4
Baths - Animals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHvWURUzj3Q All of Nujabes is great and I can´t choose. Also listen to Recondite´s new album, it´s great. If you need more I can name more artists. Edit: I´m just going to say a couple more artist that I love. Apollo Brown, Bonobo, Prefuse 73, Pretty Lights (especially the first album), RJD2, Robot Science, Shigeto, Shlohmo.
Giraffage is great, my roommate actually knows him because they both are really frequent users in a small forum. My roommate first introduced him to me by the name of Robot Science. You might like it, it´s definitely not as good as Giraffage though.
Nice, I found out about and became a fan when he was on tour with XXYYXX, especially after this collab. Slow Magic opened for them.
Man, I love Shigeto´s Full Circle album. He just uses so many great samples and beats. You should listen to some Knxwledge too, here´s my favorite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Bw84JJCelg
Damn, that sounds dope as hell. I just fell in love with Bibimbap, the song is in a way really out of tune, but works out perfectly.
All great. If you like Portico Quartet, I suggest also checking out Squarepusher's album Hard Normal Daddy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6FY50SJcKg
I´ll definitely check it out cause I´ve been playing Portico´s new album non stop.
Ha I have it in my ipod as Animals and never thought about it thanks!
Nujabes is fantastic, love a bit of Four Tet and Baths too. Thinking of Baths have you heard this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USBzoFo5W8g it's so ridiculously chilled! Haven't heard of the others I'll check them out tomorrow as it's late (or early) where I am so I'm off to bed.
Boards of Canada - "Olson" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UYQqeLvHns Boards of Canada - "Turquoise Hexagon Sun" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79SN8I9Fw8M Boards of Canada - "Echus" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjrPpzNeNZ0 Bibio - "Ambivalence Avenue" (A lot of Bibio's music is somewhat soothing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgGsnYpT3zg
I've actually never heard of those Boards of Canada tunes which is suprising as I've listened to a few of their songs. I love Echus and Olson, thanks! Liking the Amvicalence Avenue too it's nice. The very start of Echus reminds me of Hiatus - Tiny Doors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaPUagqyNeM
Echus, if I recall correctly, isn't on an album or anything, that was just a live recording from All Tomorrow's Parties in 1999?. BoC don't play many live shows, though.
I just started listening to some music from the genre Chillwave. To start, I would recommend XXYYXX. It's got a really calm, electronic sound, and I love it. Additionally, Moby's album, Wait for Me, is pretty chill, but it almost gets to the point of being so chill that it's sad.
Chillwave is great. You might like, Toro Y Moi, Baths, Neon Indian, Washed Out, Four Tet.
Ooooh, I'm saving this post for later. In the meantime, here are my own contributions. Proswell - 0eo
Proswell - Pane
Aphex Twin - Avril 14th
Xerxes - New York Blues
Xerxes - Cell Progression
That's cool. Xerxes is one of my best friends :) He is currently working on a new album! Just wanted to let you know ;)
Aw, cool. Though I still have to listen to the last one he brought out, too. Have you ever noticed that the pile of music to listen to just gets bigger and bigger?
http://xerxes-music.com/ <-- All his stuff is here :) I know, too much music! But I need to stop listening to so much and use my time producing music myself instead. When I'm looking for new inspiration, I tend to just continue to listen to music :/
Toro Y Moi - So Many Details A little bit on the poppy end of what I usually listen to, but I love it for calming down.
Can you define what you mean by "chill?" You say relaxing, but do you mean more like downtempo/IDM type of music, or like more classical type music?
I hadn't thought, chilled is quite a subjective term come ot think of it. The best word that I can come up with to define it for me would be mellow, it has to be light for me. Downtempo/IDM type music and classical music can both can fit under the term chilled for me. There are many genres which have songs which I'd refer to as chilled from acoustic to ambient to even some liquid dnb, it really depends on the song. Genres which I wouldn't consider to be relaxing whatsoever would be metal and all the subgenres and genres related to that. Sorry I didn't think about it before but it's a very vague and subjective question. But I hope what I've said narrows it down slightly.
Ooh what a great thread! Gonna take a while to check out all this music... Here are some of my favorites. It's actually easier to list artists I think, but I'll throw in a few songs as well:
Exist Strategy - Sunsets
KOAN Sound - Halo 4 Green & Blue Remix
Little People - Moon Those are just a few... Definitely check out the artists though. Exist Strategy is just FULL of chill music, here is his soundcloud. Also another good artist is Nymos. KOAN is more electornica but he has a few chill songs as well. I have a lot more but I don't really have time to list everything now - just wanted to throw in my twenty cents. Enjoy folks!
Even though I see a fair amount of electronic on here already... I can always add more! All of these artists I've listed have large catalogs of great triphop and other similar IDM. Except Excision, he's got like 3 chill tracks and a whole lot of dubstep. Bonobo - Recurring
Bonobo - Black Sands
Bonobo - Ketto
Excision - Sleepless
Emancipator - Safe in the Steep Cliffs
Infected Mushroom - Avratz
Tycho - Dive
Tycho - Elegy
Blackmill - Lucid Truth
Love a bit of Blackmill, heard of Bonobo before from a friend they're pretty decent. That Excision tune is a bit harsh for me but I can see how some people find it relaxing. Give these a listen you might enjoy them, there's a very big chance you've heard them before Dave Greening - Purgatory (Sizzlebird Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF21hhawK2o Asa - Sweeter Things http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9TEd_KnAzc And although you look to be a fan of Blackmill I've just gotta post this Blackmill - Miracle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXVQNSlFJ6M
Oh man Miracle is one of my favorite Blackmill songs! I also see where you're coming from on the Excision track, but personally I can chill to metal and stuff so it's not too bad for me. Actually I haven't heard either of these two tunes but they were both great!
Vibrasphere – Erosion Ott – Somersettler Solar Fields – Sol Ashtech – Earthforce Abakus – A Whole New Way of Looking At the Day
Burial and Trifonic for sure. Trifonic - Broken http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v... Burial - Kindred (might be too up-tempo, but Burial is quite relaxing for me and very atmospheric) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC16FJTI6XM Another guy I'm fond of is Chris Bathgate
It's not exactly melt-into-the-chair relaxing but if you want to lay around on a hot day and bob your head: Sublime - Summertime
I'm not very familiar with chill music, but this album makes me relax like nothing else. Kind of Blue by Miles Davis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hB669XXjnUg
OK, maybe I'm a bit late to the party, but I just love downtempo/chilled tunes too much not too chime in. Here are a few of my favorites, and yeah, I'm considering 'chilled' not as a formal subgenre, but as a description of the general mood/theme of the song: Bilss – People Among Us
Blue Sky Black Death – The Era When We Sang
The Cinematic Orchestra – To Build a Home
Emancipator – With Rainy Eyes
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble – Caos Calmo My last.fm profile...
Yeah, I don't know... not to sound emo, but I like sadness. Not that I like to feel sad purposefully, but in a Rilke sort of way. Accepting it in all its splendor, knowing that there is truth and beauty that must not be repudiated nor avoided. You know?
[Mad World](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfR238kimYU by Gary Jules is fantastic and very calming.
Heehee, I'm sure this'll be an unpopular suggestion (sarcasm) but
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCQTr8ZYdhg and also a couple others,
The Beatles - Hey Jude http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDdI7GhZSQA
Neil Young - Heart of Gold http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LC3naFQ-MU and a whole slough of Simon and Garfunkel songs
the Sound of Silence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zLfCnGVeL4
Scarborough Fair http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYQaD2CAi9A And honestly this one gives me absolute chills, purely because of sentimental value, but my God, the frisson..
Joss Whedon - Ballad of Serenity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7vS4z6ngQo
A formidable list but if you're throwing on S and G, you ought to have this one imo.
Exile Vilify by The National - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-Vg2YS-sFE
Shlohmo - Rained the Whole Time is pretty chill downbeat type stuff. Snoop Doggy Dogg - Gin and Juice Laid back. Neu! - Isi chill krautrock classic
Shlohmo is fucking great. Have you listen to Telefon Tel Aviv or Knxwledge? You might like it.
Knxwledge has been on my list of artists I've heard a litttle from and liked, but haven't had the time to really explore for a while. Checking out Telefon Tel Aviv now.
I saw Telefon Tel Aviv many years ago in Detroit. I always liked their titles. E*vax should be thrown into the mix as well. His album Parking Lot Music was on heavy rotation for a long while with me.
That was a really nice song, I´ll definitely be getting that album. Thanks!
Of course it is. For some reason whenever these type of artist die I always feel like there is more power in there music. Telefon Tel Aviv and Nujabes in particular, I always remember that they died and makes me appreciate their music more because I´ll never get anything from them anymore.
