I would like to be able to see submissions that have not yet had any shares... I like to see "hidden" posts from users who might not have very many followers yet. When a new user posts something, it's a good boost to their submission when I can find it and share it with my 166 followers. I like finding and following new users, hopefully it will encourage them to become active in the community.
Hm. I think it might be interesting to have posts with less than two shares, or something to that effect. I really want to avoid a 'commons' effect. But if they are only sequential, there isn't competition between posts. Still I'd even consider going so far as to allow a user keep their posts out of this pool. I want to think on this.
What do you mean by a 'commons' effect, can you explain? I don't think there would be competition because we still have the user following feature. So does it really matter whether posts will 'compete' or not, if users still have followers who are likely to read and look at their posts?
Ah, yeah, understood. Well again, I think this won't be so much a problem because of Hubski's emphasis on following users and tags. Guess we'll see how things will turn out!
I'll throw this out there: As a new user of Hubski, I was thinking this exact thing the past few nights. It's interesting, because the "pub id's" seem to be sequential. Additionally, you can find the latest post by going to the TMI Page where it is listed under "Latest Post." I had actually just begun looking into page-scraping using beautifulSoup for python to make a dynamic page that listed the latest 10 - 20 pages. However, I've put it off a bit till I get home. Anyway: Yeah, I think that this would be a really great feature, and if mk doesn't end up writing one, I think I may (albeit quite crudely). EDIT: Further analysis reveals that "pub-ids" are for both links and comments. Interesting choice design choice (for mk), but it means that if I wrote a page scraper to only display stories, it'd have to hit the hubski.com servers many times to get the last 10 stories sorted from the comments. I feel that that would put to much strain on the hubski server(s), and since mk has already stated that hubski is making no money, I'd feel rather bad if I caused any problems for hubski. So, I won't do it.
Yeah, I'd like to second this. Also how do you share? I don't see a button to share this post anywhere, for instance. I feel like a five year old. Edit: Nevermind, it's just the hubski circle thing.
You share a post when you click on its hubwheel. It's essentially the same as 'upvoting' on reddit, except that everything that you 'upvote' is also shared with your followers. You add it to your hub. It's not just the things you submit, so people follow you for not only your contributions to hubski, but your overall taste in submissions. Think about what would happen if everyone's voting history was publicly viewable on reddit...
