I suspect much of the American people, the ones who voted for our current administration, are not interested in efforts to develop and build out such cities. What I suspect they'd have to say is along the lines of:

Why dump money and effort into blatantly violating the sovereignty of other nations for our own profit when we have so much land inside the US already? We voted you in to make this America great again, not to continue to neglect the heartland!

So no, even if this got past any of the feasibility/moral roadblocks it faces, I don't think the core political support would be there.

I find a lot of the points raised in this fascinating and spot on. I'd not had the thought that perhaps the very idea that humans will evolve according to natural selection is incorrect; that in the future humans will mold their own evolution.

However, I think that it's a solid conclusion. I'm reminded of this video that incorporates a monologue by Carl Sagan about the humans of the future.

I hope with Carl that we will become so much more than we are.

As someone who also got stickers in the mail, I'm stoked for you! I recommend their placement on the inside of notebooks, as they're pretty large. They are kinda tough to put things like laptops because they cover so much, but inside notebooks etc are great.

I have to say that I experienced the opposite. Throughout all of my high school years, I woke at 5am but still went to bed at 11pm. This has led me to the point where I feel at my best with a minimum of sleep (sometimes as few as just 3 hours, though usually more like 5).

For me, there's a pretty noticeable shift in my bell curve of how much sleep I get compared to how I feel. I seem to see most people feel terrible from 0 - 5 hours of sleep, then great between 6 - 9, then bad (or at least not normal) at 9+. However, I feel bad from 0 - 2, good to great from 3 - 7, then pretty weird from 7+. I don't know if that's normal, or if I'm simply not being thorough with my observations.

lelandbatey  ·  4348 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The two constants, or, why money has value

This is a really interesting post, as it's a perspective that I'd never considered before. This does make one wonder how currencies develop without the backup of a large organization to collectively make it in everyone's best interest to use it.

For example, how have Bitcoins not flattened out? Why is there such a huge market for virtual hats in Team Fortress 2? What about gold farming and WoW? I assume that it has to do with the rather free-wheeling nature of the unregulated micro-economies involved, but I'd love to know if I'm correct about that, as well as any additional details.

I was asleep. I was born in 1994, so when 9/11 occurred I was in the first grade. I woke up because my older brother woke me up, and I remember going down stairs and seeing our family watching the news on the TV in the living room. I then remember being in school and talking to lots of other people about it, mainly asking if they'd heard.

I have to say that I really didn't realize what was going on. I was 7 years old, so I hardly could understand what was happening. It's odd looking back on that.

It is a really great little gizmo! I bought one as soon as it was available. I don't know if they're still having supply problems, but they where when I ordered.

I initially tried to order from Farnell, but after receiving no word for 10+ months, I canceled my order with them and ordered from element14. It showed up a week later :)

It's getting a bit old, yeah. I remember the first wave back when it came out, now it's getting worse.
