:)
Accordingly to your poll, I'm the loneliest Jew on hubski
No doubt. IMHO there's often a big difference between the belief system one proclaims, and the one that one practices. For religious and non-religious proclaimers alike. The question may be better addressed to those that know us well, because they likely can answer more truthfully.
Do you mean relatives, friends, and lovers? Not sure about that mk. Per one view, the entire spectrum of the content of the psyche not under the control of the ego -- which includes 'external events' -- is a 'reflection' of self. Anyway, I've been getting very good feedback from the kitties in my backyard lately :) They'll do something stupid and then thinking about it I realize that is precisely the way I act .. The question may be better addressed to those that know us well, because they likely can answer more truthfully.
Yes, that's what I mean. Not to discount the reality of self-reflection, but as we largely confine the rest of the universe to the limits of 'external observation', we ought to consider it only fair that our own nature might be best revealed that way as well. :) Not to say that you suffer from this blind spot. But I do suspect that you are a rare exception.
What I meant was that the dynamics of psychological entanglements are bidirectional. A Self Realized soul, e.g. Lord Buddha, would not be subject to this (asserted, hypothetical) phenomena, so critical feedback from that quarter would be clear, correct, and timely.
I have no religion, but I do like the teachings of Jesus Christ.
I was raised Roman Catholic, and I like a few of the ideals of the new pope, but I'm not sure how I identify now. I detest the atheist community online, since many of them seem just as elitist and bigoted as the religions they try to be morally superior to. It's cliche, but I'm just striking a neutral stance right now, and not rushing to any labels yet. We'll see where the wind takes me, though!
Everything has an online community of assholes attached to it. I wouldn't go look up any hobbies you have if this bothers you. If you don't believe in any gods you're an atheist, if you believe in a god but can't define it you're a deist.
Mostly I can sift through the assholes in other communities. It's the reddit-brand atheism that bothers me, to be honest, since it feels inescapable at some times. That might just be kids my age, though. If I'm not sure about the existence of a god, I'm going to call myself agnostic for now.
Agnostic perhaps? I used to be an athiest with a diluted view on the world, and I soon figured out that Buddhism fit me the best, you should check it outI was raised Roman Catholic, and I like a few of the ideals of the new pope, but I'm not sure how I identify now. I've always kinda sorta believed in it without knowing it I used to think they prayed to Buddha lol I believed that
-Karma exists
-These is no higher being
-An afterlife of some sort exists
-Doing good, not praying to some higher being will do you good (If god does exist, and he's so selfless, he'd are more for what we did then how we pray) I also believe in some stuff not clearly mentioned in Buddhism, but suggests
-That the universe is a force of a sort without a mind, but simply governed by rules, and that force can inflict those rules on anyone at any time
This doesn't seem to be a good method for polling people!
In most of the us A is 100 to 93, A- is 92 to 90, B+ is 89 to 87, B is 86 to 83, B- is 83 to 80, C+ is 79 to 77, C is 76 to 73, C- is 72 to 70, D+ is 69 to 67, D is 66 to 63, D- is 62 to 60, F is below 60. Most of the variation I've seen is with Ds and Fs.
I think we'll see mostly atheist followed by Christian if we end up with a decent amount of Hubskers (or whatever we're called) answering. I say atheists at top because they tend to be over-represented online relative to in meat-space. I'm an (agnostic) atheist myself. I have some interest in non-theistic Satanism, but wouldn't consider myself part of it.
I'm agnostic as well, but can't reconcile agnosticism with atheism. Atheism is a certainty of the absence of god(s); Agnosticism implies it's futile to declare certainty one way or the other, as we lack the insight to definitively know. That's how I understand it, at least.
Agnostic is the opposite of gnostic, and deals with knowledge rather than faith. Gnostic atheist would be certain that no gods exist. Agnostic atheist is I don't think there is enough knowledge to say for sure, but I don't believe in a god. Agnostic by itself is also used, I don't like this as it's definition is trying to force atheist to mean something that most atheists don't agree with by calling it a belief in the lack of god rather than just the lack of belief in a god.
